The Medical Assistant for Psychiatric Services works in an integrated care practice team environment, promoting and contributing to a positive patient care experience through the delivery of high quality and compassionate care. This role takes on additional roles within the care team, sometimes acting as a trainer/ resource/mentor for other Medical Assistants and team members. This role supports and coordinates efficient clinic workflow and communicates accurately, positively, and professionally with all team members and patients. This role is required to perform all duties of the Medical Assistant, as well as additional tasks and responsibilities and functions as a primary clinical support staff for specialized patients with crossover to psychiatric services. The Medical assistant for psychiatric services works under the direct supervision of the Nursing Department in collaboration with medical providers and other licensed care team members.

Psychiatric patient Clinical Responsibilities:

-Provides a safe, neutral, and compassionate care environment in coordination with the care team including provider and other support staff. The care environment can be in different modalities including but not limited to in-clinic, virtual, and telephone encounters

-Assists with the safe administration of long acting injectables prescribed by a licensed provider of medical care

-Provides an environment for the safe administration of medications under the care of a licensed medical provider

-Complete yearly competencies specific to psychiatric care including preparation and administration of Long Acting Injectables.


  • Graduate of an accredited Medial Assisting program and is currently certified/registered.
  • 2 years of medical assisting experience specifically with a specialized patient population for psychiatric services
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with public and other staff persons. Strong customer relations and communication skills with a proven record of customer service excellence. Articulate telephone voice, legible penmanship, reasonable spelling skills and proficient computer skills.
  • Able to organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple activities and tasks. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and use sound judgment
  • Ability to handle stress related to demanding or difficult patients/team members, competing priorities, and changing processes.
