GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Works in collaboration with the clinical directors and assists HIM Supervisor to provide support for the Health Information Management (HIM) Department. The HIM Specialist II will evaluate, process and validate Release of Information requests and is responsible for the preparation and disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI) pursuant to the authorization for release and in accordance with organizational, state, federal and HIPAA guidelines. This position will assist the HIM Supervisor with oversight of select department functions and specialized programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum two years' experience in the medical field with working knowledge of HIPAA, medical terminology, and Release of Information.
  • Minimum 1-year experience in a Health Information Management or Medical Records department, 2 years preferred.
  • A thorough understanding of the functions of an Electronic Health Record and user experience with at least one EHR system.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of PHI Release of Information practices and standards.
  • Previous experience scanning documents into an electronic database. Medical record scanning preferred.
  • Experience with, knowledge of, and ability to apply professional customer service concepts, principles and practices.
  • Excellent multitasking, organizational and verbal/written communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful completion of a medical office program, accredited health records program, and/or ROI certification (or equivalent related work experience).
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree
  • Bilingual
