Medical Assistant Lead - Boise 23rd

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Staff Management: under the supervision of the Medical Assistant Supervisor/RN Supervisor

  • Demonstrates professional growth through continuing education. Accumulates 4 hours of CE credit per year.
  • Represents the nursing team on corporate work groups, committee and/or task forces. Acts as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating team setting and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Work with licensed clinical team members and nursing leadership in order to meet or exceed minimum threshold requirements in all core clinical measures within established clinical guidelines
  • Continuously monitor each Medical Assistant to assure that the care protocols are adhered to and completed in order to meet/exceed Patient Center Medical Home's high quality standards
  • Communicate with Medical Assistant Supervisor and RN Supervisor regarding employee status and evaluation
  • Communicate and monitor compliance with performance standards for MA team members
  • Assists Medical Assistant Supervisor in developing effective, accurate and timely performance appraisals
  • Will orient, teach, monitor and conduct periodic competencies to all Medical Assistants
  • Will oversee Medical Assistants in day-to day activities.

Medical Assistant Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Prepares patient for clinician encounter by checking patient into examination rooms in accordance with Standard Rooming Protocol.
  • Generates all necessary EMR nursing documentation for each patient encounter, following appropriate protocols.
  • Communicates all necessary patient information to other health care professionals, both in TR and to outside facilities.
  • Performs nursing procedures such as ear lavage, EKG, injections, dressing changes and diabetic foot exams per established protocols.
  • Assists medical clinician with procedures such as IUD insertion, LEEP, cryotherapy, joint injections, suturing, colposcopy, PAP, biopsy, orthopedic casting, circumcision and nail removal. Prepares and maintains sterile field as necessary.
  • Responds to emergency situations in accordance with BLS protocols and established TR policies/procedures.
  • Maintains adequate stock of all medical supplies and equipment in exam and treatment rooms.
  • Obtains and processes lab specimens according to established TR policy and protocols: blood, urine, etc. Completes all necessary documentation via LIS/EMR and ensures all labs are resulted prior to the end of shift.
  • Monitors and documents Lab QA and emergency equipment checks per protocol.
  • Receives and processes medication refill requests per protocol.
  • Administers medications on clinician's orders following the 6 Rights of Medication Administration.
  • Monitors patient schedule to ensure all appropriate records, equipment and supplies are available.
  • Completes tasks and assignments delegated by Medical Assistant Supervisor or RN team leader.
  • In accordance with documented training/orientation, administers x-ray examinations as ordered by a medical clinician exercising professional judgment in the performance of procedures.
  • Appropriately positions and transfers patients when needed utilizing good body mechanics and ensuring the safety and comfort of the patient.
  • Demonstrates professional growth through continuing education. Accumulates 4 hours of CE credit per year.

MARGINAL DUTIES

  • Participates in in-service education programs, functional team meetings and care team meetings.
  • For bilingual staff (English/Spanish), provides interpretation services for clinicians and other TR team members as needed.
  • Performs any other duties as may be necessary for the efficient and effective operation of the clinic and care of patients or as assigned by the supervisor or his/her designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited Medial Assisting program and is currently certified/registered.
  • 2-3 years of medical assisting experience at Terry Reilly
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with public and other staff persons. Strong customer relations and communication skills with a proven record of customer service excellence. Articulate telephone voice, legible penmanship, reasonable spelling skills and proficient computer skills.
  • Able to organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple activities and tasks. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Ability to work independently and use sound judgment
  • Ability to handle stress related to demanding or difficult patients/team members, competing priorities, and changing processes.
  • Current Idaho driver's license and dependable transportation available during scheduled hours
  • Able to walk and stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to lift 30 pounds.
