Peer Support / Recovery Coach - New Path

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide peer support services to patients with a substance use disorder and/or serious and persistent mental illness. Services are provided in a permanant supportive houseing facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Provide hope and encouragement by serving as a role model in recovery.
  • Reinforce a culture of recovery and client-centered services.
  • Work with patients individually and in group settings to develop recovery plans which build on their strengths.
  • Assist participants in achieving their recovery goals.
  • Provide individualized assistance and education in obtaining community services, maintaining life supports such as housing or income, carrying out the tasks of daily living, and participating in support groups or other community networks.
  • Participate in outreach and activities that approach and engage persons with the objective of developing trust while providing appropriate referrals.
  • Offer education and support in working toward physical and mental wellness, including healthy living behaviors.
  • Serve as a resource for incorporating recovery strategies and tools into all client services. Reinforce an approach of client self-determination in all aspects of service planning.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certified as a Peer Specialist by a nationally recognized Peer Specialist training program.
  • Possess a solid understanding of the recovery process.
  • Have a history of participation in recovery program and be well-grounded in one's own recovery, with at least a year since diagnosis.
  • Be willing to share one's recovery experience with clients and staff.
  • Have completed or be willing to complete within the first six months of employment, one's own Wellness Recovery Action Plan.
  • Successful clearance of Department of Health and Welfare criminal background check.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Have the ability to teach coping/life skills, while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries with clients.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with homeless patients.
  • Experience working in a recovery setting.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary setting.
