Pharmacy Technician I - Full Time

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES       

Works under the supervision of a pharmacist to deliver quality patient care and excellent customer service. The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting pharmacists in filling prescriptions, helping patients in person or on the phone.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

 

Front line:

  • Assist pharmacists in dispensing of medications. Take patient prescription and review account information in the corporate practice management system. Input patient and prescription information into pharmacy computer workflow system, and complete prescription processing according to pharmacy procedures.
  • Refer patients to the Medication Assistance Program if a prescription is written for a medication on the medication assistance formulary.
  • Collect payment from patient at time of prescription pickup or apply balance due to appropriate grant.
  • Call pharmacist to consult on all new prescriptions. On refill prescriptions ask the patient if s/he has any questions for the pharmacist.
  • Place medications to be picked up on the "pick up" shelf. Medications are to be sorted by first letter of last name and fill date.
  • Learn to reconcile cash register each morning for previous day's transactions and submit daily deposit to administration. Learn daily deposit to administration each morning for the previous day's transactions.
  • Post and reconcile the daily pharmacy batches into the corporate practice management system.
  • Prepare, place, and file purchase orders for pharmaceuticals and supplies. Work with pharmacists to control inventory.
  • Check in AmerisourceBergen order daily and other orders as they arrive. Update price information into pharmacy computer. Send documentation to purchasing weekly each Friday for AmerisourceBergen and as they arrive for others,
  • Assist pharmacists with weekly Return to Stock.
  • Answer the pharmacy telephones and assist caller as appropriate.
  • Assist in filing prescription hard copies numerically in bundles of 100.
  • Prepare and send Pfizer report weekly for the Pfizer Share the Care program each Monday by 5pm. Send to Pharmacy Director, Chief Financial Officer, or Executive Director for approval.
  • Ability to Process and adjudicate third party insurance.

Medication Assistance Program:

  • Complete MAP applications and track follow-up requirements.
  • Screen patients for income level and determine whether or not patient qualifies for any medication assistance programs.
  • Data entry of necessary information into the Medication Assistance Tracking Software.
  • Order medications from pharmaceutical companies' medication assistance programs.
  • Complete required paperwork for each pharmaceutical company.
  • Communicate via telephone, mail, or electronic health record (EHR) to clinicians, patients, and pharmaceutical companies.
  • Train other persons as needed on Medication Assistance Tracking Software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficient Computer skills.
  • Able to walk and stand for long periods of time and lift up to 30 pounds.
  • State of Idaho Pharmacy Technician license and background check completed prior to start date.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate clearly.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS      

  • One or more year's pharmacy experience.
  • Knowledge of prescription drug programs.
  • Bilingual abilities (English/Spanish).
  • State Certified Pharmacy Technician
