Program Coordinator - Imaging Services

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides oversite of imaging services across the organization. Acts as the Radiation Safety Officer and manages the exposure protocol for Terry Reilly. Serves as clinical coordinator for the training and competency evaluation for staffs responsible for imaging services.

Performs x-ray examinations on patients as ordered by the medical clinicians. Explains the X-ray procedure to patients, prepares patients for the procedure and position them for the best possible outcome. Facilitates repair of diagnostic equipment. Observes proper safety procedures to avoid unnecessary exposure of self, care team members and patients to harmful radiation


ESSENTIAL DUTIES


  • Operates within current national licensure standards and scope of practice and exercises professional judgment in the performance of all procedures.
  • Performs x-ray examinations:
  • Upon receipt of a clinician order, prepares the patient for x-ray and administers the x-ray examination. Preparation of the patient for the x-ray procedure includes removal of garments or jewelry that may interfere with procedure and explaining how the process works.
  • Appropriately positions and transfers patients utilizing good body mechanics and ensuring the safety and comfort of the patient.
  • Selects proper technical factors, density, detail, and contrast of the area being imaged on an individual patient basis and evaluates the technical quality of all films taken to avoid retakes.
  • Practices radiation protection for self and patients.
  • Practices radiation protection for self, staff, and patients by:
  • using local spot-lead blockers and aprons.
  • ensuring signs are posted in both English and Spanish requesting the patient to inform the technologist if they are pregnant.
  • restricting room access to patient and technologist when images are taken, if patient is under 18, one parent is allowed in room.
  • wearing a radiation badge
  • Coordinates, facilitates and monitors the wearing of radiation badges by all appropriate medical care team members and maintains and generates all documentation and reports necessary.
  • Evaluates images for technical quality and notifies medical clinician when images are ready to be viewed.
  • Acts as a liaison between Terry Reilly and the contracted imaging vendor for identifying quality issues with images and troubleshooting equipment.
  • Maintains accurate daily log of x-ray services provided.
  • Ensures EHR documentation is completed in an accurate and timely manner; this includes charges and tracking.
  • Maintains portal access with outside providers, when available, to retrieve reports and films.
  • Pursues continuing education and maintains current national licensing standards. Provides continuing education documentation to Nursing Manager for education file.
  • Ensures compliance with the maintenance of equipment and safety inspections by facilitating, coordinating and documenting all annual and ongoing maintenance of x-ray equipment per manufacturer's instructions and state/national standards.
  • Facilitates, coordinates and supervises the orientation of Terry Reilly staff members to imaging services and provides on-going in-service education, competency assessment and technical input.
  • Collaborates with clinical leadership to ensure competencies and continuing education of clinical imaging team members is completed, documented and tracked.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an ARRT approved school of Radiologic Technology.
  • Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology.
  • One year experience as Radiologic Technologist.
  • Able to lift 30 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate calmly, compassionately, and professionally in high stress situations with different types of patients.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two or more years' experience as an x-ray technologist in a family medicine environment.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
